Leadership Training Program

At the ATA, we take the concept of leadership very seriously, and our leaders are serious about their responsibilities. The Songahm Taekwondo family is our foremost concern, and we have worked hard over the years to make sure our members' trust is well-placed and that the future of Songahm Taekwondo will always be shaped and directed by individuals that truly care.

Students who have decided to participate in our Leadership Program have not only committed to train for their Black Belt and beyond, but have also committed to being leaders, not only in our school, but in life. These students are working to share the benefits of martial arts training by being leaders for others to follow and setting a standard of "Black Belt Leadership Excellence" in all that they do in life.

Most of the time, we package Master Club together with the Leadership Training Program. By enrolling the student in both programs at the same time, it saves a significant amount of fees that are duplicated between these two programs. In addition to the Master Club benefits, Leadership Trainees will receive a special collar on their uniform - Red/White/Blue for Junior Leaders (14 & under) and Red for Adult Leaders (over 14). This collar represents their commitment to be a leader. They will also receive a special Leadership Patch that will be worn on their left sleeve of their uniform. These visual reminders act to keep them focused, and to remind them be role models that others want to follow.

Leadership Trainees will assist the instructors during ALL lower rank classes. Over the course of their training, students will learn advance Leadership ATA Life Skills - such as goal setting, casting a vision, being proactive, and more. They will also have the opportunity to learn advanced weapon training with the Sam Dan Bong (three-sectional staff), Double Ssang Nat (Kamas), Gum Do (sword), Oh Sung Do (broad sword) and Jee Pahng Ee (cane).

In addition to assisting during classes, all Leadership Trainees are expected to attend and assist at all promotional testings and other events as requested. Leadership Trainees may also assist judges at any ATA sanctioned tournament by keeping score in a ring or keeping time during free sparring. Master Prosser's Leadership Trainees who attend a tournament are also expected to arrive in time for the opening ceremony and help out throughout the day until the end of the closing ceremony. This not only shows the student's commitment to being a leader, but it also ensures that there will be enough helpers available to keep the tournament running smoothly for the competitors.
